Donhwamun Gate

Built in May 1412 (12th year of the reign of King Taejong of Joseon Dynasty), Donhwamun Gate is the main gate of the Changdeokgung Palace. A grand bell was installed on the gate the year after, and was rung every midday and 22:00. The gate was lost during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592–98, and restoration efforts began in 1607 (40th year of King Seonjo’s reign_, ending in 1609 (first year of King Gwanghaegun’s reign). This version of Donhwamun Gate has survived to today, and it is designated as Treasure No. 383 of Korea.
