The original stupa that stood in Jogyesa Temple was criticized for being out of place with the traditional Korean architecture, having been completed during the Japanese Occupation. In response to these criticisms, a new 10-story stone pagoda was newly built on October 8, 2009, to house the sarira of the Buddha.
