Daeungjeon Hall

Daeungjeon Hall's literal meaning is “the place where a great hero resides.” In the context of Buddhism, this hero refers to the Sakyamuni Buddha, the Enlightened one, one that has overcome and mastered oneself, the transcendent one that is venerated by all. In some cases, such as Jogyesa Temple, Daeungjeon Hall can also house the Bhaisajyaguru and the Amitabha Buddha to the right and the left of the Sakyamuni Buddha. In such a case, the hall is given the more respectful name of Daeungbojeon Hall.
